West Lake Boudreaux Shoreline Protection and Marsh Creation

projectMap

Project Location

The project is located in the Terrebonne Basin along the western shoreline of Lake Boudreaux in Terrebonne Parish.

Project Description

The purpose of this project was to create and nourish about 200 acres of marsh along the western shoreline of Lake Boudreaux in Terrebonne Parish to protect the shoreline from erosion due to direct exposure to lake wave energy and to restore interior marsh lost to subsidence and saltwater intrusion.

Issue Addressed

The entire historical lake rim was lost along the west bank of Lake Boudreaux due to erosion caused by wind-driven waves and high water. The interior marsh and adjacent infrastructure were greatly threatened by any continuation of the erosive action.

Project Goals

The project used a rock dike to halt shoreline erosion, and used dredged material to restore interior marsh habitat lost from subsidence and saltwater intrusion.
