Terrebonne Bay Shore Protection Demonstration

projectMap

Project Location

The demonstration project was conducted along the northern shore of Lake Barre, a deteriorating coastal bay area east of Cocodrie in Terrebonne Parish.

Project Description

This project evaluated the performance of several different shoreline protection methods, including concrete mats, artificial oyster reefs, and A-Jacks.

Issue Addressed

The erosion of brackish bay shore marshes results in increased salinity, marsh degradation, and substantial losses due to increased wave action and storm surge. This ultimately threatens low-salinity habitats in adjacent inter-distributary basins.

Project Goals

This project added data and knowledge on the applicability of various shoreline erosion control methods, including concrete mats, artificial oyster reefs and A-Jacks.
