Project Location

This project is located in an open water area just west of the bank of Freshwater Bayou Canal, north of the Freshwater Bayou Lock, east of existing pipeline corridor, and south of the Humble Canal in Vermilion Parish.

Project Description

This project involved the construction of approximately 96 acres of freshwater marsh near the intersection of Humble Canal and Freshwater Bayou in Vermilion Parish using 816,000 cubic yards of sediment dredged from Freshwater Bayou.

Issue Addressed

ME-25-SF addresses the depletion of interior marshes in this area due to saltwater intrusion.

Project Goals

Approximately 96 acres will be created in a degraded broken marsh and open water area. The marsh creation fill area will be formed by constructing earthen dikes around the boundaries of the project area, and then a hydraulic dredge will be utilized to place material.
