PROJECTS IN CONSTRUCTION

Bayou Chene Floodgate (AT-0017)
GOMESA - Estimated Cost $80,000,000

The purpose of this project is to install a floodgate in Bayou Chene in St. Mary Parish to reduce backwater flooding from the Atchafalaya River during a Mississippi River high water event. The project will provide backwater flooding protection for portions of St. Mary, Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption, Lower St. Martin and Iberville parishes, reducing flood risk to communities and infrastructure and promoting resilience.

Atchafalaya Delta WMA Campground Improvements (AT-0020)
NRDA - Estimated Cost $4,207,807

This project includes improvements to the existing Wax Lake Outlet Campground in the Atchafalaya Delta WMA to enhance recreational opportunities for hunters, anglers, wildlife viewers, and campers by offering a safe, protected campsite that is accessible by boaters. Project features include bulkhead installation along the campground approximately 30 feet from the existing shoreline, sediment placement behind the bulkhead to restore some of the lost acreage of the campground, and jetty construction to stabilize the bank and bulkhead.

Cypremort Point State Park Improvements (TV-0081)
NRDA - Estimated Cost $4,477,338

This project involves the construction of multiple features in Cypremort Point State Park in St. Mary Parish to enhance recreational and educational opportunities, including reinforcing the existing rock embankment on Quintana Canal; restoring the public beach; installing a new marsh boardwalk; repairing and upgrading existing roads and parking areas damaged by repeated flooding; and constructing a new RV campground with up to 30 pull-through sites.

Increase Atchafalaya Flow to Terrebonne (TE-0110)
NFWF - Estimated Cost $415,215,000

The purpose of the project is to utilize freshwater and sediment from the Atchafalaya River in order to build, sustain, and maintain wetlands within the Terrebonne Basin. The project intends to dredge the GIWW east of the Atchafalaya and install a bypass structure at Bayou Boeuf Lock to increase freshwater and sediment flows from Atchafalaya River to Terrebonne marshes in St. Mary and Terrebonne parishes.

Atchafalaya Delta WMA Boat Access (AT-0019)
NRDA - Total Cost $920,450 / State Dollars $920,450

This project involves dredging two locations in the Atchafalaya Delta in St. Mary Parish to enhance recreational access for hunters, anglers, and wildlife viewers to Breaux Pass, Cul-de-sac Pass, and many interior waterways and wetlands in the Atchafalaya Delta WMA. Dredged sediment will be beneficially used to enrich and nourish wetlands.

St. Mary Backwater Flooding (TE-0116)

This project provides for flood protection improvement to the current Morgan City flood protection system by raising nearly two miles of existing levees to elevations as identified in the 03/27/2013 report by T. Baker Smith.

Morgan City/St Mary Flood Protection (TV-0055)

This project provided flood protection improvements by raising or improving 2.5 miles of the current levee system in the Morgan City area in St. Mary Parish.

Morgan City Industrial Road (AT-0005)
CIAP - Total Cost $1,247,000

The objective of this project is to reduce commercial traffic through residential neighborhoods in Morgan City and provide better access to the industrial facilities and the museum by rerouting traffic onto a newly constructed roadway. The new roadway is located along the protected side of the Morgan City Floodwall beginning at the at the floodgate on 2nd St., connecting to 2nd St. and Federal Ave. and ending at the tie into Industrial Road.

Franklin Floodgate Sinkable Barge and Pump Station (Phase 2) (TV-0052-2)
CDBG - Total Cost $2,481,000

This project involved construction of the second phase of a levee, flood wall, sinkable barge structure, and pump station on Franklin Canal in St. Mary Parish to prevent storm surge from inundating the town of Franklin.

Increase Atchafalaya Flow to Terrebonne (03b.DI.04)

Dredging of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) and construction of a bypass structure at the Bayou Boeuf Lock from the Atchafalaya River to Terrebonne marshes with 20,000 cfs capacity.

Construction of a structure across Bayou Chene near Amelia.

Iberia/St. Mary Upland Levee (03b.HP.14)

Construction of a levee to an elevation between 15.5 to 20 feet NAVD88 in Iberia and St. Mary Parishes between the Delcambre Canal and the Charenton Canal. Project features approximately 158,300 feet of earthen levee, approximately 15,100 feet of T-wall, (3) 110-foot barge gates, (5) 30-foot barge gates, (8) 24-foot sluice gates, (11) 16-foot sluice gates, (11) 8-foot sluice gates, (2) 40-foot swing gates, (2) 40-foot roller gates, and (7) pump stations with a total capacity of 16,320 cfs.

Amelia Levee Improvements (03b.HP.08)

Construction of a levee to an elevation of 18 feet NAVD88 along the GIWW between Lake Palourde and the Bayou Boeuf Lock near Amelia. Project features approximately 46,400 feet of earthen levee, approximately 13,400 feet of T-wall, (4) 40-foot roller gates, (1) 250-foot barge gate, (1) 110-foot barge gate, and a 5,000 cfs pump station.

Franklin and Vicinity (03b.HP.12)

Improvements of existing levees to an elevation between 12.5 and 18 feet NAVD88 from the Wax Lake Outlet to the Charenton Canal as well as the Bayou Sale polder. Project features approximately 204,600 feet of earthen levee, approximately 8,700 feet of T-wall, (2) 16-foot sluice gates, and (1) 40-foot roller gate.

Morgan City Back Levee (03b.HP.10)

Construction of a levee to an elevation between 10 and 12 feet NAVD88 to protect the northern side of Morgan City. Project features approximately 30,600 feet of earthen levee, approximately 4,600 feet of T-wall, (1) 40-foot swing gate, (1) 30-foot barge gate, and (1) pump station with a total capacity of 1,604 cfs.
